Welcome to the online portfolio of Brooke Kelly
Brooke Kelly is a 2012 graduate of Jackson State University. There, she was a mass communications major, concentrating in multimedia journalism and minoring in art. During her junior and senior year at JSU, Brooke was managing editor of The Blue and White Flash student newspaper. In addition to helping other students with their stories, being on the newspaper staff gave Brooke the opportunity to do a lot of reporting herself, some of which earned her Mississippi Press Association awards her senior year.
One of Brooke's fondest professional memories thus far is spending her last semester of college as an intern reporter in Washington, D.C. While interning there with the Scripps Howard Foundation Wire as a Chips Quinn Scholar, Brooke had the opportunity to report at various locations, including the White House; turn stories into multimedia reports; better her writing and learn more about journalism. During summer 2012, Brooke was a part of the National Association of Black Journalists' student multimedia project that took place during the association's conference in New Orleans. There, she worked on the universal copy desk with other students, recent graduates, graduate students and mentors. In addition to having experience as a freelance reporter, Brooke has done volunteer public affairs work with American Red Cross. Most recently, for the first four months of 2014, Brooke was immersed into public relations work as an intern with McNeely Pigott & Fox Public Relations Firm in Nashville, Tennessee. In this portfolio you will find Brooke's resume, articles from various publications, multimedia work and artwork. Note from Brooke: I am thrilled that you have decided to view my online portfolio!
